Personalized Tissue Will Change Drug Development - click here for the article
Researchers with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology said they were able to generate all of the three primary cell types from human induced pluripotent stem cells, making it possible to produce human tissues that can be used for patient transplant or drug testing. Researchers developed the technique while examining whether stem cells can be used in the production of pancreatic beta cells intended for patients with diabetes.

Science Fair
This year for Grade 8 Science Fair:
Students that are wanting to go to the Regional Science Fair will get extra support in Science Fair Club after the Winter Break. These students will be expected to make a back board and present their projects to high school students and teachers for feed back before they go to the Regional level. For any students who are not wanting to go to the Science Fair, they will be responsible for creating or recreating an experiment and presenting it to their classmates in any format they wish (power point, poster, website etc...). If you have any questions about Science Fair (as a parent or student), please e-mail me at [email protected].

Click here for a criteria sheet that I have used in my class for the scientific method.
Your project should have replicated data (several trials). Your graphs should include averaged data, including standard deviation. Click here for an explanation on standard deviation, which I will explain in February. Click here for an example of standard deviation. Do not try to calculate it, I can show you how to use Excel and do this with a click of a button. You should know what it means and how to incorporate it into your presentation.
