Mrs. Arcuri went over the Light and Eye Test and handed them back to students. We discussed how we were going to cover the Fluids Unit in just 6 classes. Yes, just 6 Science classes left. Students first reflected on what they new about fluids and then we watched a Bill Nye video (see below) to help introduce the key points on fluids (gases and liquids). We discussed the Content Needed to Know sheet, click here, to help guide students for studying for the Light and Eye test coming up. We discussed the answers to the Light Energy Review, click here to see the answer key, and we played a Jeopardy game to review the parts, functions, disorders of the eye, click here for the Eye Jeopardy as PDF file
HW = start studying for the Light and Eye test (chapters 10-12 in your textbook) on Thursday. Students were given the Chapter 10 & 11 Content Needed to Know sheet, click here, to help guide them for studying for the Light and Eye test coming up. Students worked on the Light Energy Review sheet, which focused on how light travels through lenses and reflects off of mirrors. Click here to see the answer key.
HW = start studying for the Light and Eye test (chapters 10-12 in your textbook) on Thursday. Students completed the sheep eye dissection. If you were absent, see the video below for details. Note: The Light and Eye Test will be next Thursday. Focus you time studying for your Math final, but you will want to start reviewing your chapter 10-12 in your textbook on light and the eye. We reviewed far and near-sightedness from last day, click here for Your Eye Sight notes on far and near-sightedness. We also finished labeling the eye, (click here for the eye diagram and see section 12.1 in your textbook), and saw Mrs. Arcuri's demonstration on the eye dissection. Students are to review section 12.1 in their textbook on the human eye, look over their eye diagram and prepare themselves for the eye dissection on Wednesday.
HW = Review the eye because the dissection is on Wednesday. Test on Light and the Eye will be next Thursday. Today students took a few eye tests to determine if they needed to make an appointment with the optometrist to get their eyes checked. We discussed myopia (eye too long) and hyperia (eye too short), how each of them affects our vision and how we correct each condition with covex or concave lenses. Click here for Your Eye Sight notes on far and near-sightedness. We also started labeling the eye, click here for the eye diagram, which we finish next class.
We finished the Mirror Lab, click here, and the Lenses Lab, click here. The lab on lenses investigated how light travels through straight, convex and concave lenses, see the video below for a description of what we saw in the lab today. Students started investigating the Law of Reflection (see section 11.1 in textbook) - the incident light ray (incoming ray) angle is always the same angle as the reflected light ray (outgoing ray). Students finished the Mirror Lab. Click here for the Mirror Lab.
