We looked at how a light ray transmits through transparent material (clear lens) and translucent material (wax paper) and how light reflects light on a plane mirror. We also discussed the difference between a specular reflection with a plane mirror and a diffused reflection with crumpled aluminum foil. Students started investigating the Law of Reflection - the incident light ray (incoming ray) angle is always the same angle as the reflected light ray (outgoing ray). Click here for the Mirror Lab.

Today we looked at the vocabulary that describes a wave (frequency, amplitude, crest, trough, and wavelength), as well as the visible light spectrum (red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, and violet). We discussed how to separate white light into the rainbow spectrum. We used prisms and spectroscopes to separate the spectrum of colours and discussed why we see different colours, why we see white and why we see black. Students completed the notes on waves and optics, click here. Many students were absent today, due to Shakespeare Festival and Leadership class to Giant's Head Elementary. Those students present watched a video on the electromagnetic spectrum, click on website to view the video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HPcAWNlVl-8 Students looked at very basic pinhole cameras. See the video below to make a pinhole camera. Mrs. Arcuri handed back the test on the nervous and immune system. Today was an introduction to light and the electromagnetic spectrum. Click here for todays notes. If you were absent, please read section 10.1and 10.3 from your textbook.
Students wrote their test on the immune and nervous systems.
Today we finished discussing sexually transmitted infections and how they affect the body. See the links below for the videos watched in class. We also discussed ways to study for tests in science, noting that there is a test on Monday for the nervous and immune system. We moved the test to Monday because there is a test in Math this week. This way you will have enough time to study both.
