We discussed more real life examples where we had to calculate the third side of a right triangle using Pythagorean Theory. Students practiced on the Pythagorean Theorem worksheet, click here.

Due to our senior buddy visit we had a shorter math block today. Mrs. Arcuri introduced Pythagorean Theory (see chapter 1 in your textbook). We discussed the formula and how it is used in real life. We will continue this tomorrow.
Introduced the Pythagorean Theory by reading the story "What's Your Angle?" We discussed how the square of a right triangle leg plus the square of the other leg is equal to the square of the hypotenuse. We will look at some examples tomorrow.
Students worked on some algebra practice, using on-line practice. Click here for on-line practice. See Mrs. Arcuri if you are having difficulties with any of the multi step algebra ex) 2(x +1) =3 .
Students worked on the Distributive Property worksheet, due tomorrow.
Click here for the worksheet Click here for the answer key for the Distributive Property worksheet. If you were having difficulties with the worksheet that was given out in class, then try a novice level worksheet for the distributive property (click here). Today we discussed how to visually represent the distributive property for algebra using tiles. Click here for the worksheet that we did, using plactince or drawings. We also started discussing how to solve agebra equations with the distributive property ex. 2(x + 3) = 10 Click here for the worksheet that was given out today. If this is too difficult try a novice level, click here.
We discussed the meaning of "distribute" (to give out) and then used the distributive property to answer questions like 2 ( 3 + 4). We then discussed how the distributive property can be useful to when multiplying larger numbers. For example, (7) (33) can also be thought of as 7 (10 + 10 + 10 + 3). You might not know your 33 times tables, but you know your 10 and 3 times tables. We started to discuss how the distributive property is important in algebra ie) 2 (x + 3) because you cannot add x and 3, being that they are unlike terms. We will continue our discussion on the distributive property next class.

Students received their 2-step algebra quiz back from last day and we discussed the answers, see answer key below. Students then started to work on solving multi step algebraic equations. Students will be given more class time to finish the worksheet of their level tomorrow, see below for the worksheets. Some students have been just working on the algebra and then others have brought decimals and fractions with 2 step algebra. Depending on students background knowledge with operations with fractions and decimals, students were given one of two quizzes. See below for the answers to the quizzes.
