Students worked on their Fractions Review booklet to practice for their Fraction Test tomorrow. See yesterday's post for the answer keys.
Today we had a presentation from a national skiier and she discussed her experiences. We also wrote the Chapter 1- Living Things Test for Science during this block. Mrs. Arcuri handed out the Fractions Review booklet so that you could start studying at home for the Fraction Test.
HW = study any types of fraction questions that you are struggling with. Your Fraction Test is Friday. How to study for your Fraction Test: 1) complete the Fractions Review booklet (you will get more time in class). See below for answer keys. 2) Khan Academy and on-line practice from the Math 8 Main Page (scroll down to Fractions) 3) Textbook Practice Test for Chapter 3 - answers are in the back of the textbook 4) Go over notes and practice questions we did together Make sure to see Mrs. Arcuri if there is anything that you do not understand. Students worked on Order of Operations with Fractions and chose a novice, apprentice, or expert level worksheet. We will continue practicing these this week.

We discussed how to divide mixed fractions and students practiced dividing fractions, click here for the answer key to the practice. Students also wrote a short quiz on dividing fractions.
Note: your Fraction Unit Test is this Friday. We used pie, chocolate bars, and number lines to explain how to divide whole numbers by fractions. This was followed by a discussion on patterns that students started to see. Students came up with the rule for dividing fractions and did some practice dividing fractions by fractions using our rule that we came up with. Dividing Fractions: a) Convert fractions to an improper fraction, if you can b) Invert (flip) the second fraction c) Multiply fractions - multiply numerators and then multiply the denominators Students completed some more practice with multiplying fractions, since the quiz results from last day indicated many students needed more practice. Today we used this block for Science to investigate the difference between plant and animal cells. We used the onion bulb as the plant cell and students learned how to make a wet mount slide.
Today our class was spent at the Summerland Senior Village. We made Christmas crafts with our senior buddies and enjoyed yummy hot chocolate and treats.
Before we left for our visit to the senior home students wrote a quiz on multiplying fractions. Today we used first block for Bannermania and Science.
Note: tomorrow there will be a short quiz to see how you are doing with multiplying fractions. |
