Welcome back from Spring Break. Today we discussed our e-portfolios and reflected on what we have done in all classes for grade 8 during this year. We did not do any math today because the e-portfolios for Advisory took up the whole block.
Students wrote their Excretion and Digestion test because we had the drug and alcohol counsilor talk with our class about the affects of drugs and alcohol on our body.
We discussed substituting numbers for variables and solving equations through substitution. Students practiced on a worksheet and we discussed the answers in class.
Today we used our Math block to start the digestive system. See Science for today's lesson.
Note: There is a test on the Excretory and Digestive System on Friday. Today students were introduced to variables (letters) and algebraic expressions (ex. 3x +2). We also reviewed some key terms for adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing, which helped students make algebraic expressions (ex. the sum of 2 and triple a number). We watched Green Eggs and Ham by Dr. Zeuss to prepare us for a fun algebra activity on Wednesday. Enjoy your weekend.

Students wrote and marked their squares and square root quiz.
Students continued their squares and square root integers and fractions booklets (novice, apprentice, or expert level).
If you want to practice estimating square roots to decimals then click here. You will need to print the cards out and cut them up to match them up. HW = novice, apprentice, or expert level booklet on squares and square roots with whole number, integers, and fractions is due Thursday. Students marked their squares and square root assignment, click here for the answer key. Students were introduced to squaring and square rooting integers and fractions. Students started working on a novice, apprentice, and expert level booklet on square and square roots of whole numbers, integers, and fractions.
