Students wrote the Ratio, Rates and Percent Test.
We discussed the answers to the Chapter 5 Review booklet for Percent, Ratio and Rates. Students either wrote the test if they were ready, continued doing some practice questions from the textbook, or worked with Mrs. Arcuri to review the concepts better.
Note: if you did not writ the test today or did not get to finish the test today then you will do so tomorrow. We discussed a couple examples of percent - commission and simple interest. Students were not given very much time to finish their chapter 5 Percent, Ratio, and Rate Review booklet, but click here for the answer key.
HW = Finish the Percent, Ratio, and Rate Review booklet for tomorrow. You voted to have the test tomorrow! We finished up the Jeopardy review game from Thursday's class. Students were given time to work on the Percent, Ratio, and Rates Review Booklet (click here).
HW = make sure that the first two pages of the review booklet are done for tomorrows class. No Math class today, due to the SSS Electives Tour. Students went over to the high school to hear an introduction to the elective courses that will be offered to them for grade 9. More information about electives and course selection will be coming from the high school in a few weeks.
Students were given the chapter 5 Percent, Ration, Rates review booklet (click here) in case they want to get started studying for their test next Thursday. Today we reviewed how to calculate both percent increase/decrease and percent of a number, which was on the back of the Percent worksheet (smiley face one). This is not easy, but keep practicing some of these questions. See section 5.3 in your textbook for extra questions for these concepts.
Last part of the block we played a Jeopardy Game, which focused on percent questions. We also agreed that Friday, Feb 13th was a good day to have our test on Percent, Ratio, and Rates (chapter 5 in the textbook). HW = complete the whole Percent worksheet (smiley face one) for tomorrow. Tomorrow I will hand out a review booklet for the test next week. Also, try the Chapter 5 Practice Test in your textbook. Yes it really is February now, isn't it?
Today we discussed how to calculate 10% really fast and tested to see how fast they could calculate percent.. We then looked at Percent of Number, when the number is missing, see section 5.3 in your textbook for extra practice if you need it. We translated the statement: 50% of a number is 100 to .50 n = 100 using algebra skills we calculated the missing number. HW = Practice #1-4 on the back page of the Percent worksheet (the smiley face one), due tomorrow. Click here for a copy of the smiley face Percent worksheet Students continued practicing discount, sale price, tax and final price by working in groups to determine the best coupon that Mrs. Arcuri gave the group. Students entered our Store 8 shopping mall (the classroom) and were given a coupon and a flyer with items they needed to buy. Students worked in groups of 4 to see which person out of their group of 4 had the best coupon. Click here for the shopping activity instructions and work page.
Can you believe that it is February?
Today we reviewed how to calculate discount, sale price, tax, and final price using percent. Students were able to practice these calculation by practicing textbook questions. HW= Textbook page 260 #4-10, due Tuesday. Note: use the tax percents on page 256 of your textbook, instead of the actual value of tax today so that you can monitor how well you are doing. The answers are in the back of the textbook, but are based on the tax values on page 256. Click here for more practice on finding percent of a number and check out the second page for the answer key. |
